Artisan Treats for Degus, Chinchillas and other small animals

At Little Fauna we design healthy treats for Degus, Chinchillas and other small animals. Our products are low in fat and naturally occurring sugars and are made with the best, human-grade ingredients that are either organic or 100% natural. If any of the ingredients could not be grown on a farm, for example, then we don’t use them.

We don’t use additives or preservatives and add no extra sugar. Little Fauna doesn’t believe in adding junk into our products just to make them cheaper or look prettier. Many small animal treats contain fatty seeds and molasses, which is a derivative of sugar cane. As it is high in sugar, molasses is bad for Degus, Chinchillas and some other small animal species as they are prone to type 2 diabetes.

All rodents have continuously growing teeth, so they must wear them down by gnawing on various materials. If they do not gnaw, their teeth will become overgrown which can result in problems feeding and eventual starvation if not treated. If a rodent’s teeth become too long the solution is to take them to the vet for a teeth trim. This obviously can cost a lot of money as teeth will need to be trimmed every few weeks!

Our Products

Our main product is the Gu-Cube. It is a new treat especially designed for Degus and is also suitable for Chinchillas and other small animals. It is a delicious treat that your little pets will be fighting to get their paws on. It is made with Degus in mind, to be healthy and help prevent teeth overgrowing.

We believe in quality and what is best for your pet, rather than what corners we can cut to make profit. The ingredients are such high quality that if you felt the need you could eat the cube yourself (minus the wood), however Little Fauna does not recommend this as you could break a tooth!

As a pet rodent owner have you found that, even though gnawing is a natural behaviour, your pet just isn’t interested in the block of wood they have been given?

The Gu-Cube is designed to encourage chewing on wood. Two flat pieces of wood are layered within the Cube, so the feed material is stuck on a majority of the wood’s surface area, as well as sandwiched between the two pieces. This means that if the small animal wants to eat the treat it will have to gnaw at the wood to get to it. The Gu-Cube is designed to help prevent your furry friend’s teeth overgrowing.

Most wood types are actually toxic to rodents. Natural kiln dried pine is one of the few safe woods and this is what we use in the Gu-Cube.
